Hello I have just updated from 68.8 (I think). When I restarted Tbird, I found a completely unfamiliar layout. There was something about new Profiles, which I did not understand (I've been a user since 2005). I clicked something that I hoped would work. At some point there was a panel that showed email folder location.

All I could do was to close and re-open Tbird. But, I'm still left with the same empty mail client.

This seems a very drastic change for a 'point release'.

If anyone can help me, I'd love to be able to see my emails. It's kind of critical...

Regards, John

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Help/Troubleshooting, open about:profiles. Is there another profile listed besides the one in use? If so, can you 'Launch in new browser' and see your data?

Hi sfhowes Thanks ever so much for your swift reply. Yes it solved the problem. All emails and calendar events restored. Phew! That was the page I remember after the update. I had no ides what to do.

I've managed to get by for the past 15 years without even knowing I had a profile. I can see that a different profile could be of use, should I ever find a need.

Feedback comments: 1. It would have made more sense to have restarted using my 'default' profile, so that I wouldn't have known any difference. 2. Make access to profile management more visible. I would never have found my way there without your guidance.

Many thanks again and stay safe.

Before TB 68, it was seldom necessary to know about, let alone manage profiles, but an ill-advised adoption of the Firefox 'profile per install' policy in 68 has forced countless upgrade headaches like the one you experienced. A similar problem occurs if you try to downgrade to an earlier version, perhaps to keep an add-on working, even a decimal change in the same branch, e.g. 68.9 to 68.7. Keep that in mind when you are asked or automatically upgraded to 78 in the coming months.

OK.....this fix worked on my computer but the profile isn't showing up on my wife's computer for some reason. I even went so far as to uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall the latest version and the profile still isn't showing up in the about profiles section. Any suggestions on how I can get it to work on our other computer?

Hi d-jwein

I'm not a expert in this. I can only suggest what you might have already done on your wife's computer... See what is in C:\Users\<wife-user>\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles Look for the most recent date on the folder and in About Profiles see if you can create one that links to this folder. I guess you do the same in \AppData\Roaming\...
