Curious if anyone else has seen this. Within the last few days I have encountered a problem with images not being displayed. The most recent incident is an HTML-formatted e-mail being displayed in the Comcast web mail interface. If I right-click on the space for the image and select View Image Info, the pop-up also fails to display the image, but if I copy the image location into the address bar of an empty Firefox window and hit Enter, the image displays correctly.

This happens infrequently, and I haven't been able to find anything that connects the occurrences. Nothing that appears related in the web console.

Running Firefox 77.0.1 on Ubuntu 18.04.

No help. We seem to be looking at different versions of Firefox. To manage cookies I have to select Privacy & Security and click on Manage Data. I've done that and cleared the cookies for the site with the unsuccessful img tag, and I've used Clear Data to remove all cached content. When I log in again at the site in question, the image still fails to load.

There is no Advanced entry on the Preferences page - I have General, Home, Search, Privacy & Security, and Sync; there are additional entries for Extensions & Themes and Firefox Support at the bottom of the page.

In about:config I tried setting layers.acceleration.disable to true. That also made no difference, independent of safe mode.

Solved: I tried copying the img tag into an isolated file on my PC, basically a div containing the img with just enough wrapped around it for it to load cleanly; that worked OK. On a whim I tried copying the test file into my private Apache HTML tree and reloaded it from there, where it failed. This time I got a web console message informing me that "The resource at ... was blocked because content blocking is enabled." It turns out that Enhanced Tracking Protection: Standard doesn't quite live up to its claim that "Pages will load normally." I don't know why tracking protection is turned off in pages loaded by a "file:///..." URL, although it makes sense that the referrer address won't tell the guy at the other end much. But turning off tracker blocking for that site gets the image loaded as expected.

Clear the Cache and

   Remove Cookies
   Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

   Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
   Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.
