My e mails have lost all of their source information . The inbox is just a series of headings of the mails.

Until recently my e mail page which come via g mail (which runs the IEEE emails) have had information about the date and time of the e mail as well as the source and the writer . It also gave me the opportunity to prioritize the e mail etc. However suddenly without anytthing I had done, the e mail now just has the header. so I have to guess the sender and source etc and have to open it to decide what I want to do with it. As I tend to ignore a lot of useless mails it is a big nuisance. How to I go back to the original system I have been looking at all of the controls under View etc with no luck. Is this something that G mail did without asking me? Thanks

re : I associate this change with the appearance of the GO tab which at this time seems to have no valid function? Please correct me on this

The 'Go' on 'Menu Bar' has been around for a while and has allows you options to move to eg: Next Message or Next Unread message or go to a particular folder etc. Whilst this can easily be achieved via using a mouse, the Go options also allow access for people using keyboard and/or shortcut keys.

Hi Could you possibly upload a screen shot so we can see what you see? It might be simply that your subject column is too wide. Agnes

Thanks I have received the message and hope that you have the information you need. I am still beset with e mails without sender information at this time but have found and added a pane which shows sender information on the individual messages that I click on. So I presume this information is coming to me from Gmail and IEEE. and the problem is related to the settings in my Thunderbird. I associate this change with the appearance of the GO tab which at this time seems to have no valid function? Please correct me on this Thank Terence Christopher

As I can see full details in the header, I presume you are refering to the Thread Pane or Message List which currently only shows the 'Subject' column.

You can select various column headers such as 'From' ,' Date' etc.

Suggest you do this: Where you see 'Subject' column header, look to the far right and there will be an icon just above the scrollbar. click on that icon and select 'Restore column order' If that does not show exactly what you want, you can use the same icon to select / unselect specific column headers.

The image below should help you to understand what I'm talking about. Although image is an older version of TB, the icon is the same and it performs the same function.

Dear "Toad Hall" Thanks that tiny icon which I had never seen before solved the problem. Why is this tucked away rather than being under the View options. That is the only place i know where i can change the appearance and information. It is very useful and important for folks like me who get too much useless stuff that we can't relegate to the junk or trash Anyway I am now happy again. Thanks Another problem that I cannot solve is the fact that I cannot remember or handle the organisation of the files that store addresses and e mails etc. I have been using Thunderbird for many years and when I purchase a new computer I have lost all of the old addresses and mails especially when drives or other things fail. I have been using mozilla backup but have never managed to create a system where this whole system has any long term reliability. I also have difficulty with the help. This is the first time that I have ever been able to get any information so have previously just been scrapping things and starting again Thanks for your invaluable help Terence

The most reliable and easiest way to save all your data is to copy the Thunderbird folder to a backup location. Restoring it is as simple as copying it to an existing or new computer in the same location. The default location on Windows is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird Enable Hidden items on the View tab of File Explorer.
