Whenever i compose a new email in thunderbird and type in a receiver's email address, it tries to connect directly to the domain of that address. What is the reason for this?

It is not a huge problem, but my firewall blocks it and informs me, so would be nice to know, especially as my old version of thunderbird did not use to do it.
