Does THUNDERBIRD allow me to transfer email from one account to another, or save it some other way?

I'm trying to migrate email from one account that is switching to "paid" to another account. Can I do this with THUNDERBIRD? I always run into trouble with the accounts IMAP AND POP and it seems to be for new email, not folders. Also, will I have to leave THUNDERBIRD on my PC? This I can't do because my only access is at a public library.

The last thing you want to do is install any email client with your personal info on a public computer, like one at the library.

I didn't intend to leave it. Matter fact the PCs delete those types of things overnight. And I could delete it after using it. I was hoping an answer would point me to something I could use to transfer emails from one account to another, if not a client.

If you had portable TB on a flash drive, you might be able to use that on a public computer. In that case, mail could be moved between any accounts set up in TB, or import folders that exist on another computer. But I suggest you see if your new mail service has the option to collect mail from the old account, by looking at the settings on the new account's web interface.

I'll look that(portable TB) up. See if I can find out what it is and how to get it. The last thing I want to do is have it deleted. I'd take a chance on the client, as I take a chance signing in everyday on a public PC.

There is a big difference between checking your email using an Internet browser and installing a client like Thunderbird and adding your personal info to it on a public computer. Did you know that the Thunderbird program is separate from your data? You can delete the program and your profile with your data stays. If you do not delete your profile along with the program all it takes is someone to install Thunderbird on that computer and poof, all your data appears I cannot imagine and public facility like a library allowing you to install software on their computers anyway. The portable Thunderbird is a good suggestion and is the way to go.

Thanks. That's more understandable. I was wondering if the information would still be there after end of day shutdown, or if I deleted the download myself. I was hoping to transfer it from THUNDERBIRD if possible, not leaving it there. Since these programs try to be helpful, I wonder when they'll come out with personal accounts.

When I look at this - portable TB - what comes up is external hard drives. Is that what's intended by the answer? If so, how much do you think I'd need. I don't remember the amount of space used at the account, but I was told I couldn't send email because my unpaid account was "full".

Thunderbird portable is developed and supported by Portableapps.com. They have instructions on how to use it on the link you were provided. You install it on a thumb drive. The size you need depends on how much email you are talking about.

The TB program folder requires about 150MB, and the size of the profile folder, which contains your mail, depends on the user. If you get reports of 'full' accounts, you should first delete any Trash messages and compact all folders to minimize the profile.

A 32GB flash drive is about $15 and should be adequate for most users.
