SharePoint plugin no longer supported, how to manage files on SharePoint with Firefox?

more options

My organisation is mandated to use Firefox and we've recently updated to the latest ESR, we can no longer open files from SharePoint as Firefox just downloads them and opens them locally. This was previously managed by the SharePoint plugin which not allowed any further.

I've done some googling but the only solutions I've found are to use an older version of ESR or use IE11, neither of which we're able to do.

Is there any other way around this issue? An extension maybe?

Thanks,

Alex

Unfortunately, that is the only option in order to get SharePoint to work properly. As far as my research shows me, there doesn't seem to be an alternative option available at this time.

Firefox no longer supports plugins, other than Adobe Flash Player. Unfortunately, the only way to get this support is to download Firefox ESR 52, which is only supported until August 2018.

This article has more detail about the situation.

Hi Wesley,

Yes we found that in our research but we're not allowed to drop to a lower version.
