Why doesn't scrolling work with my Thinkpad's trackpad or trackpoint, even with ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled set to 0 or 1?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga P40 running Firefox ESR v45 and Developer v52, and I've already seen these support forum questions:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/978607 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/921615

and these bugs:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=538189 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594977 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=622410

and this on the Mozilla Wiki:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Gecko:Mouse_Wheel_Scrolling#Hack_for_Thinkpad_Trackpoint_scrolling_.28Windows.29

I've already set ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled to 1. Scrolling with the trackpad, or with the trackpoint and middle button, still does not work.

The pad and pointer work fine in all other applications but Firefox, including Chrome, Adobe suite products, Microsoft Office products, and OpenOffice.
