I want to completely expunge firefox from my mac, but there is no firefox folder in my library! Firefox will not let me sign in to my online bank account!

I have been going crazy trying to figure out why Firefox will not allow me to sign into my bank account when just a few months ago it used to let me. There was a problem with my password, I changed it, and not I keep getting this error page telling me that the page I am trying to reach is not secure and it won't let me into my account. I deleted Firefox and what I thought were all of it's files, but when I redownload the program and set it up, it comes up with all my bookmarks and settings and still won't allow me to sign on to my online banking!!!! I followed the instructions on your help page to get rid of my profile, only there is no Firefox folder in my library, and no Mozilla folder either! So I have no idea where my profile is stored or how to find it. I just want to be able to do my on-line banking without having to use Chrome to do it. This really SUCKS! I use the same password on Chrome, and get in, but on Firefox, this is the message I get:

SECURE CONNECTION FAILED The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. *The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. * Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. TRY AGAIN

I did contact my banks online banking site and they told me they could not see a problem and if I was able to log in with another browser than do that instead! LOOK, I LIKE FIREFOX, I just want to get this problem fixed. Can you help me or not?

Firefox stores your bookmarks, saved passwords, and other useful data in a profile folder. You can locate the profile folder most easily from within Firefox, but you also can locate it using Finder. This article has more information on the profile folder: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

But to address the immediate issue, does the error page you're getting have an "Advanced" button that you could click? If so, please click that and copy/paste the more detailed explanation of the problem into a reply.


These are some more general suggestions:

When you have a problem with one particular site that previously worked normally, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Command+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually. If you can't open View Cookies on that site because of the error, open the dialog on a different site and edit the domain that appears in the search box to the one where you have the problem.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
