How do I disable Firefox updates under Ubuntu? ( I don't want any version that doesn't run unsigned addons!)
It was bad enough when Adblocker and Flash block suddenly stopped because they were unsigned.
It took me considerable effort to dig up the info (see below) and turn it off.
But now that (from 44 on) this preference is supposed to go away, I will just stay with the current version. Until I can regain full control of what addon I can have, any further Firefox development is dead for me.
I don't give a damn about security vulnerabilities, so please, don't patronize me about why I should keep up to date.
Under pref->advanced I only get the Search Engine checkbox, so that means Ubuntu itself must be updating the package.
So, in short, how do I disable Firefox from getting ANY changes/updates under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS?

PS: I am NOT going to ESR either.
PPS: Mozilla being so presumptious to force everyone into only using signed addon's has lost all goodwill I had. So, how are you different from Chrome, now???

...when Firefox 44 is released on Jan 26, 2016 that pref won't do you any good. Please see this. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox xpinstall.signatures.required is a temporary pref for Firefox 43 only. The developers of your unsigned add-ons will need to get them signed before Firefox 44 is released, or they'll be disabled again with no fall-back as with Firefox 43. The user "taking responsibility" just doesn't sit well with Mozilla; add-ons are either signed or they'll be disabled, or not allowed to be installed.
Thanks for the information! I still think it is BS that Mozilla, wants this much control over what "used to be" the best browser out there.

The xpinstall.signatures.required pref is now going to be compatible thru the Firefox 46.0 version. https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2016/01/22/add-on-signing-update/ https://wiki.mozilla.org/Addons/Extension_Signing#Timeline
Thank you.
That buys time, but I want to be able to freeze FF at a version that I am comfortable with.
I do not like any software auto updating itself, messing up my work environment - especially if it removes choices.
So, I still need a way to prevent it from updating or even checking for updates. (That is the number 1 reason I will not even try Chrome.)
Thanks again...

Here are two support articles about Firefox updates for your perusal. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/advanced-panel-settings-in-firefox#w_update-tab And specific to Windows: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-mozilla-maintenance-service
Considering that you are using an Ubuntu build of Firefox, check with Ubuntu support to learn how to disable Firefox updates that would come from the Ubuntu program repository. http://www.ubuntu.com/support
Mozilla doesn't update the Ubuntu Firefox builds; they come from the Ubuntu repository. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu
