I've had Thunderbird for a few years and have always noticed that soon after clicking on the Thunderbird icon and it opens up, I can open any previous mail that I had received before. Then I put in my password and I am able to fully use Thunderbird. I have asked Thunderbird to remember my password. Shouldn't I have to put in my password before I can open any mai,l even old mail? Right now anyone using my computer can access my old mail!!!

Then use user accounts in your operating system. There is no password to open MS Word and read your documents. Thunderbird is no different.

The password is your email password to log into your providers server to get new mail. It has nothing to do with protecting messages already received.

I, obviously, would like to lock out anyone from my existing mail before "opening" Thunderbird and downloading new mail.
