Having just established a new address directory in Thunderbird, I can't access the addresses therein to send emails to all or some of them?

Having just established a new address directory in Thunderbird, I can't access the new directory or any of the 55 addresses therein to send emails to all or some of those addressees. When I start to prepare an email, I normally click on the "To" before the address line, which opens the same (WRONG) directory of addressees every time, I have to cherry-pick from this list for addresses which I need for the particular email and then manually type in any additional addressees not in that list. Is it possible to change this procedure so that before I choose any names, I can change the address directory itself and then choose one/more/all names from the new directory which the "TO" function will then insert in the address line of the new email??????????????????? If I can achieve this, I can open a lot of new address directories and make life much easier. I must confess I have put up with this for YEARS. Cheers Doug Telfer

Does your new book show up in the address book 'Directory Pane'? 'Tools - Address Book' 'View - Layout - (check) Directory Pane'

In the Directory Pane, the default highlight is for 'All Address Books'- which is a compiled list of every contact in all of your address books. Change the highlight to select your new address book. Now try to compose a message, You should see only the list of contacts in your new book.
