I just upgraded from thunderbird-31.8.0 to thunderbird-38.1.0. Thunderbird does not appear to successfully connect to uw-imap. (uw-imap = http://www.washington.edu/imap/ imap server )

When the new thunderbird connects to my local uw-imap (started via xinetd) it appears to connect:

> maillog <

Jul 26 16:43:12 runner-public imapd[31027]: imaps SSL service init from 127.0.0.1 Jul 26 16:43:12 runner-public imapd[31035]: imaps SSL service init from 127.0.0.1 Jul 26 16:43:12 runner-public imapd[31034]: imaps SSL service init from 127.0.0.1 Jul 26 16:43:12 runner-public imapd[31035]: Unexpected client disconnect, while reading line user=??? host=UNKNOWN

And after typing my password:

> maillog <

Jul 26 16:44:21 runner-public imapd[31027]: Authenticated user=richard host=localhost [127.0.0.1] mech=PLAIN Jul 26 16:44:21 runner-public imapd[31034]: Authenticated user=richard host=localhost [127.0.0.1] mech=PLAIN

But then Thunderbird never shows messages. In the Thunderbird status bar at the bottom left of the GUI it states: rich@myisp: Looking for folders ...

Five imapd processes are eventually started (all running at 100% cpu) and about 5 thunderbird processes are running at about 30%CPU usage.

Any idea on how to get Thunderbird-38.1 working? (Reverting to Thunderbird-31.8.0 'Fixes' the issue.)
