This "menu" was showing up automatically. It has stopped showing. I want to restore it. (Also, why did it stop showing? One thought, I recently changed my setting re. accepting cookies. Now I'm asked each time whether I allow or deny them. Could this have anything to do with the remote content menu stopping...?)

It looked like this:

Edit remote content preferences allow remote content for xxx@xxx always allow remote content from xxx@xxx etc.

The current version should display the following for a message that has remote content.

'To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message'. There will also be an 'Options' button next to that message. click on 'Options' button to get a drop down menu.

  • 'Show remote content in this message'
  • 'Edit remote content options..'
  • 'Allow remote content for email address'

If Thunderbird seems to be always allowing remote content, check settings: Tools > Options > Privacy or Menu icon > Options > Options > Privacy

Under 'Mail content' Do not select the check box 'Allow remote content in messages'. It should not be selected by default. To check any exceptions you may have already set up, click on the 'Exceptions' button immediately to the right
