why have i never been able to get thumbnails on new tab?
Can't find any instructions for getting thumbnails to appear on new tabs. Only thing in Help is how to restore ones that are missing, and those instructions are totally worthless in my case. Ever since this "feature" was first available, it has never worked for me.

Do you see any thumbnail files in the thumbnails folder?
You can find the thumbnails folder in the parent location of the disk cache, see the about:cache page for this location and go up one level.
@scribe_uk -- sorry, but FF instructions were where I looked again after the latest update. Unfortunately, those Help graphics don't match at all what I see on my screen so the help is essentially worthless. That's why I was trying to find a solution in the Forum. :(

ummm, can you be more specific?? what "page" for what "location" ???
The thumbnails are located in the thumbnails folder.
- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\thumbnails\
Note that you may not see thumbnails for items with a secure HTTPS connection and pages that aren't in the disk cache.
