Very recently I have had a strange issue crop up. I have not knowingly changed any setting in FF (but as always I may have hit a hot key combo or some such without know I have done so). There have been no new add ons or plug ins installed or updated in or around the time that this started happening...

When I shut down FF and then later restart it, FF starts in the last page viewed rather than my home page. I have noticed the following as far as the history settings:

Remember History - The situation described above occurs. Never Remember History - The situation is resolved, FF opens in my home page. Use Custom Settings - If I have Clear History On Close checked the situation is resolved, otherwise it is present.

I have found no other setting that resolved the issue permanently or temporarily. I wold like to retain history but have my start page work as well. How do I fix this? FF version 31.0.

As usual, as soon as I post a question I find the answer. I used Google several times in an effort to resolve this but for some reason I failed to notice the setting in user.js. I found that, removed it, and things are back to normal. Thank you.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
