The crash you are seeing is Fixed in Firefox 33. You can either wait for that to be released (In about 9 weeks or so) or try using Firefox Aurora.

Please note that using Aurora isn't highly recommended as there can sometimes be other bugs that haven't been fixed yet (it is one of our testing channels). https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/#aurora

FF crashes many times during the day and to wait 90 days is not practical and force me to use IE or Safari which I do not want to do.

How can I downgrade back to 30 or another version that does not have this problem?

more options

As I said, you can update to Firefox Aurora, which doesn't have this crash. You can install it on your computer and use it until Firefox 33 is released in 60 days.

Will test and see if other problems you indicated might be present

Lots of crashes. Three within the last half hour.

I have been upgrading Aurora every time requested.

Most crashes appear to me to be Plug-in Container related. All Add-ons are "Ask to Activate" except one which is "Deactivated".

Could an MS upgrade be related to this?

When FF versions are released will I still be notified even though I am running Aurora?

hello, could you enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there starting with bp- & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.

hello, you have quite a few customizations/addons installed which will make it rather difficult to troubleshoot the issue. can you try to create a new profile for testing purposes and use that for a while to see if that addresses the crashing issue?: Profile Manager - Create, remove, or switch Firefox profiles

and regarding to your question about aurora and updates: aurora is like an early beta & always ahead two numbers of the firefox release version. when you have installed aurora, you will stay on this version and also receive updates (daily) for aurora. you'd have to switch back manually to the release version by downloading & installing a fresh copy of it...

Did you already try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

If crash reports do not have a "bp-" prefix then you can click each of them on the about:crashes page to submit them to the Mozilla crash server.

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

See:

the reports from above will actually work - i'm going to edit the post accordingly.

"hardware acceleration" has not been selected

All crash reports are being submitted automatically. I clicked on each one and the ID I gave is the ID at the top of the report which does NOT include the "bp-" shown on the list. I should have used a simple copy-paste which is now below.

NOTE the last one happened after seeing your post and trying to use "Tools > Add-ons" from the tool bar.

What would you NOT like to see in a new profile?

  Add-ons?
  Extensions?

Two Add-ons are being indicated as still requiring update even though I followed procedure this morning to update and have rebooted Aurora. Could they be in my unused "normal" FireFox??

  Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in
  WacomTabletPlugin

the advice trying out a new profile came primarily from your extensive list of extensions (firefox' extension system is very powerful and unfortunately this can also cause misbehaving ones to crash the whole browser) and some custom preferences (like the user.js file that is commonly used by adware to overwrite certain settings) that are rather unusual.
it would just be a first step to establish if there's any bug within the plain program itself (or maybe the system environment) or if it could be attributed to one of the customizations...

more options

I have disabled many extensions and only left the 10 enabled that I use the most.

I prefer NOT to reset my profile at this time but rather run with the reduced extensions as a test.

Of note Aurora has not crashed in the last 5+ hours so maybe we can blame an extension.

If it continues without a crash I will start enabling, one at a time, the extensions I disabled yesterday.

QUESTION When a crash is attributed to the Plugin Container does that include ALL Extensions AND Plugins or ONLY the Plugins?

more options

a crash of the plugin-container will only refer to plugins like flash - however, this crash will most commonly not take the whole browser with it, but only the section where the plugin content was playing will be affected - this looks something like: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/12342

more options

Disable the plugin container:

http://firefoxcrash.blogspot.com/2014/01/how-to-fix-flash-player-crashes-in.html

You wont find that anywhere on these forums!

Cant say it will or will not work for your situation.

Or just move to Chrome as I did after years with dealing with FF issues.

Best Regards

Can I add to this thread & hope to get some direction with FF crashes, I am getting between 10 & 20 crashes per month. Just recently it's gone crazy. I never get any response from crash reports submitted???
