Firefox has started to close a few seconds after opening. This only happens the first time after starting PC. I get no error message, no 'closing multiple tabs' message etc.

Also, no crash report logged

I've tried: Firefox reset Uninstall, delete Mozilla folder, re-install Safe mode All add ons/plugins off TDSS Killer Malewarebytes MS Security essentials scan ADW Cleaner

All to no avail. Strangely, if I start Internet Explorer first, it doesn't appear to happen.. although only tried this once - had enough rebooting for now - this is the only way to initiate the problem.

It is possible that your security software needs more time to initialize properly and is blocking Firefox in this case.

Does this also happen if you wait a few minutes after booting the computer before starting Firefox?

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Try these two things. First, scan the computer for mal-ware. Second, start the computer in safe mode with networking. Good Luck, and let us know what happens.

====================================

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thanks... sorry my first email wasn't very clear as a lot of formatting was removed on posting.

Already tried: safe mode, malwarebytes, TDSS killer, MS Security essentials, Advanced System Care anti Malware - still the same.

Also just tried hitman pro. Re-installed (again) deleted the Mozilla folder. Rest (again).

Still no change.

It definitely does not crash if I open Chrome or IE first after a reboot, otherwise FF just shuts itself down within a few seconds of opening the first time after PC start.

BTW, this happens whether or not I am doing anything, so it appears unrelated to my interaction with the browser - I can just open it and watch - it will shut down on its own.

Have you tried running the computer in safe mode with network?

Thanks cor-el, you may be onto something. Leaving it a while seems to stop it... well it do the once I've tried so far!

I've used MS Security Essentials and firewall for a long time so nothing has changed there, however just starting using Advanced System Care. I have already tried turning all of this off/set to manual etc but I might just try un-installing as parts of it seem determined to run regardless which I'm not that happy about anyway.

Yep, looks like you nailed it with the security protection. Looks like it was some component of ASC 7 causing the problem, even though I had everything set to manual and surfing protection off. Damn, should have tried that first as it was the last thing to be installed, could have saved a fair bit of the day!

Anyway, thanks a million
