March 24th 2013. Sir, Madam, I have just a technical question concerning the opening of "Firefox" after i saved a complete webpage in my folder "documents".

I had before another computer working with windows XP and i used to save quite a large amount of information with firefox. IT WAS EASY to read and re-read these these information, just in re-opened them with Firefox. ALL THE SAVED WEB PAGES saved in my "documents" WAS RE OPEN AS IT WAS BEFORE ONLINE.

Two days ago, i bought a brand new computer ACER WITH WINDOWS 8-64 bits, and since i am doing the same process; AND SURPRISE AFTER BEING SAVED AND I RE OPEN ONE ( AND ALMOST ALL THE) COMPLETE WEB PAGE (S),  : - THEY ARE BEING (info are being) RE OPENED IN MULTITUDE TABS and it is awful to have these multitude tabs but not the web page saved as before. .... sometime I HAVE TO SWITCH TO "internet explorer" to try to find exactly the webpage and the info as it was before. (OFTENLY WHILE BEING CONNECTED ONLINE -WHAT I DO NOT WANT) THANK TO THE COMPUTER SCIENCE TECHNICIAN THAT CAN RESOLVE THIS WEIRD BEHAVIOR OF FIREFOX. Faithfully Yours. NicoleenIV

Hi NicoleenIV, as you have noticed, most web pages are composed from multiple individual components, from HTML to style sheets, scripts, images, and so on. Can you spot a pattern to what is opening in separate tabs -- is it a particular type of component (e.g., scripts) or is it every individual component of the page, or something in between?

Also, there are some pages that can't be saved this way because they are set to expire or really do require a live connection. If you need maximum fidelity to the original, you could try saving a PDF in addition to or instead of saving the components. This add-on does a good job: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/print-pages-to-pdf/

Hi! I have this problem too! I use FF22 and win 7 64 bit. The 'Complete' web page is saved, but when you reopen, the images are missing with only blank boxes. I tried Rt. Clk on the blank boxes to reload etc, but they don't open out! Hence when I really need to save the images also, then I reload the page in IE and save it there, and it gets saved and can be reopened with all images etc! Moreover IE now can also save as a single file .mht ! unlike a file and a folder in FF. gilask

Firefox doesn't have the ability to save a page in MHT format, but there are two add-ons which add that feature to Firefox. Pick just one:

UnMHT extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/unmht/
Extension for viewing/saving MHT file in Firefox/Mozilla Suite

Mozilla Archive Format - MAF
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mozilla-archive-format/

Make sure that "Web page, complete" is selected when you save a page.

You can override how external links are opened via the browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external pref.

The meaning of the values of browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external are the same as for browser.link.open_newwindow

  • 1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;
