I get this error when I log in how do I correct it?

Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to mail.google.com.

You have received an invalid certificate.  Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information:

Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority.  Please get a new certificate containing a unique serial number.

(Error code: sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
  Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site.

I believe that you get a set of certificates with Firefox. First try exiting Firefox and then moving cert8.db out of the profile, then start Firefox again and see if you still get that error message. If not, you can delete the file you moved. If that does not help, you could try downloading the current version Firefox installer, then uninstalling Firefox (do not remove personal data), removing the program directory, then reinstalling Firefox.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?


You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.

  • Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".

  • Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.

You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
