firefox has been screwing up my video-watching experience on the Internet since i updated to version 13, i've updated to version 14 just now and its still acting up. firefox automatically disables typing whenever i pause a video to post a comment (so i'm typing but nothing shows up).

To regain access to my keyboard after pausing a video, i now need to put the video in full screen and then exit. sometimes if i try to type whilst the video is paused, the video will sporatically jump to different scenes as if it is being fastforwarded and rewinded. WTF.

another annoying problem is that everytime i scroll up or down the screen while watching a video, the video itself (mostly the loading bar) will appear to break apart and glitch out as if it is being spread like butter on a piece of bread. i then have to keep scrolling up and down quickly to get it back to normal.

this doesnt happen on google chrome so i know its firefox, and i cant afford to switch browsers now because i have so many addons and saved passwords on firefox so please...

FIX YO SH*T FIREFOX!!

These are two separate problems.

First, YouTube's player seem to grab the keyboard after you click pause and refuses to release it. In the old days, simply clicking on the page would move the focus, but now you need to do something more dramatic like click into a different tab and back, switch to a different window and back, or what's you're doing now. I haven't seen an explanation for why the keyboard focus gets stuck. Hopefully someone will post one because it's very annoying.

Second, the scrolling glitches are related to one or more of the following:

  • Smoothing scrolling
  • Autoscrolling
  • Firefox hardware graphics acceleration

To turn those off, go to this part of the Options dialog:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > "General" mini-tab

  • Flash hardware graphics acceleration

You can toggle the hardware acceleration setting using the steps in this article: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

  • Flash 11.3 Protected mode (Win7 and Vista only)

For this and other Flash issues, consider disabling this feature until it is fully debugged. See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Any luck?

the keyboard grabbing thing happens with every flash video on the internet for me. and the scrolling glitch still happens even when i toggle the hardware acceleration thing. and i have smooth and autoscrolling on. i also forgot another glitch, youtube annotations suddenly dont work on my firefox aswell, they only work on embedded videos. i think firefox is dieing, time to migrate.

and i have smooth and autoscrolling on

I suggested turning those options, as well as hardware acceleration, off.

It may not help that you have the Flash 11.3 as it has been buggy for a number of things for some users as Adobe should have waited until they had a more stable version before release and then trying to fix it afterwards.

And before you Say "Flash is fine on Chrome" well it comes with its own version bundled (and is one of the reasons for frequent updates).
