How do I number pages that I download from a site?

When I download multiple pages from a site - like Wikipedia - I'd like to number them, if possible. Is there a way I can do that?

Many thanks. You seem to have solved my problem. However, when I brought down the Print dialog box, I had to click on "Copies & Pages" to access the more detailed instruction box for Firefox, which included Header and Footer parameters. It seems also to have become my default setting for printing pages from Firefox/Google, so I'm very happy. Thanks again!

Could you describe how you're downloading them in a little more detail? Are you saving them to disk as web pages (either HTML alone or "complete"), or are you converting them to PDFs?

Does Firefox save automatically without letting you rename the file? If you change how downloads are saved, you can edit the file name to insert a number. Maybe that would work?

Firefox > Preferences > General

In the Downloads section, "Always ask me where to save files"

I am printing them out as regular or legal-sized pages. Say I get an entry in Wikipedia I want to print out: it prints without page numbers. I'd like to add page numbers, in order, for each page printed. In my WORD app I can specify "Insert page numbers", and where I want to insert them on the page. Then I can more easily keep the pages in order. Thanks for the quick reply. Newt Wayland

A way to do that would be to modify the page title, maybe with a dedicated extension or bookmarklet and add a number to the name.

javascript:(function(){if(T=prompt('Title:\n\n' + document.title,'')){document.title='['+T+'] ' + document.title};})();

Aha, I think you need to select it in the footer options in the print dialog. And to do that, you need to expand the dialog to show more options.

(If the image doesn't show, see How to print web pages in Firefox and make sure your OS is selected in the right sidebar where it says "Article is for:")

Would the number go up, one for each page?

My Printer Selected has only three options: 1) The printer I'm using 2) Add printer 3) Print and Fax preferences

I looked at " How to print websites and make sure your OS is selected in the right sidebar where it says "Article is for:"); my OS is correct. What do I do now?Download the editing software for pre-printing?

Did you select Firefox in the third pop-up control in the print dialog?

Thanks again, jscher2000. Maybe you know how to decrease margins, also. The margins when I print Mail are too wide/large for my taste; I want to decrease them, so I can fit more onto a page. I can't find any way to set margins for my printer; neither can I find a way to decrease the margins for printing mail, etc. In "Word", of course, I'm able to set my margins. . . . but not in other apps. Can you help? Thanks, Newt Wayland

Hi Newt, as a Windows user, I'm not very familiar with Mac features. I'm actually surprised that the margin settings aren't in that dialog. Maybe try starting a new question about margins and put [Mac] in the subject line?
