I upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1 and now all the search engines in the search bar are gone. When I click on "manage search engines" the field is empty.

Immediately after I upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1, all the search engines in the search bar disappeared. When I click on "manage search engines", the field is empty. When I click on "get more search engines", none of the choices really apply. I've restarted Firefox and restarted my computer but still no joy.

I solved the problem by restarting Firefox in safe mode and choosing "restore default search engines" on the restart menu. You can restart in safe mode by choosing "restart with add-ons disabled" in the Help menu. Firefox will close, then a window opens with several options. The one on the bottom is "restore default search engines". Click it, then click OK.
