I am using Firefox 8.0.1. When I change passwords on sites, Firefox used to ask me if I wanted to update password. Now it doesn't & doesn't save new passwords in my Preferences/Security. How do I get it to do this again?

Recently I updated a site password and Firefox didn't even acknowledge the change. I backed out of the program and tried to enter it again and it still didn't pick up on it. I can't change it manually in Preferences. So what can I do?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Websites may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.
