When I click on an email address, new tabs continues to pop up one after the other.

When I like to copy and paste email addresses from excel, word or any other software, Firefox opens new tabs one after another, so many that you must Force Quit Firefox on my Mac computer for it to stop, and I don't know how to disable Firefox from doing that in the future. It doesn't stop-it continues on and on opening new tabs.
