Why do I have screen display distortion that look something like barcodes when my browser is open and I start using another application such as word or excel?
Seems that whenever I am connected to mozilla and my browser (yahoo) is active, I will open games, word or excel, one at a time or open more than one at a time, I get screen distortions that look like bar codes that make it impossible to read or distinguish the images on the screen. It happens very frequently. I have tried changing my screen settings and updating my graphics card software. Nothing seems to help. If mozilla is closed and I am not browsing, I do not have this problem.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried your suggestions and for a moment it appeared to work. I opened multiple applications, several games and a word document all at the same time. While I opened the games, it appeared to be fixed, but when I opened the word document the distortion appeared. I checked for graphics display drivers but there are none.

Can you attach a screenshot?
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
I have attached a JPEG screen shot of what the screen image looks like when the distortion appears.
