Accepted move from 3.x to 6.x. Reload icon found, but where is BIG X TO HALT CURRENT LOAD? I.E. has it next to reload icon. Now all I see is alt-F4 to attempt control.

Starting in Firefox 4, the Go, Stop and Reload buttons are combined in one button at the right end of the URL or Address bar. The button changes depending on the activity:

  • green Go arrow when typing in the address bar
  • red Stop ("X") button while page is loading
  • gray Reload (circular arrow) when page is finished loading.

Separate buttons are possible:

  1. Open Customize Toolbar window by clicking Firefox button > Option > Toolbar Layout OR clicking View > Toolbars > Customize if using the Menu Bar OR right-click in an empty space on a toolbar and choose Customize
  2. Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar
  3. drag the buttons anywhere on the Navigation toolbar
    • order Reload-Stop will combine into one button
    • order Stop-Reload will remain separate buttons
    • or drag a "Separator" from the Customize window between Reload-Stop and they will remain separate
  4. click Done at bottom right of Customize window to finish

Not related to your question, but...

You need to update some plug-ins:

Put a flexible space in between the Reload and Stop as it is cleaner and spaces out the buttons more evenly with others.

Good instructions. Problem is that the other icons DO NOT EXIST on customize pallette. In fact, it looks same as for 3.x, 17 icons:::

separator, flexible space, space, print, activity indicator, downloads, history, bookmarks, new window, cut, copy, paste, full screen, zoom controls, sync, subscribe, tab groups.

I checked there before posting.

BY THE WAY: Can FF be stopped, other than page loading, without killing it? Even with Norton360, strange things do sometimes happen.

Have you looked in the far right end of the Location (address) bar for the Reload and Stop buttons when the Customize window is open?

My instructions did not refer to the Customize palette for the Stop and Reload/Refresh buttons. Item 2. said:

  • Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar

JAMES: reload and stop icons ARE there when customize window is open, but ONLY then. Sorry, but that seems like no choice at all.

SAFE: How make this happen?

Once more, read it carefully.

Separate buttons are possible (NOTE: You can make changes to the toolbar layout ONLY while the Customize window is open):

  1. Open Customize Toolbar window by clicking Firefox button > Option > Toolbar Layout OR clicking View > Toolbars > Customize if using the Menu Bar OR right-click in an empty space on a toolbar and choose Customize
  2. Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar ONLY while the Customize window is open
  3. WHILE the Customize window is open, drag the buttons anywhere on the Navigation toolbar
    • drag = put cursor on button (Stop or Reload), hold down left mouse button and drag to a new position while holding down the left mouse button, release left mouse button.
    • Stop and Reload buttons are between the Location bar and the Search bar while the Customize window is open, NOT on the Customize window
    • order Reload-Stop will combine into one button
    • order Stop-Reload will remain separate buttons
    • or drag a "Separator" from the Customize window between Reload-Stop and they will remain separate
  4. click Done at bottom right of Customize window to finish
