Suddenly audio has vanished from youTube. I recently updated to Firefox 3.6.20, could this have caused the problem ?

I have a Mac PowerPC G4 running Tiger.

I am no expert on audio but I would reccommend updating to the latest version (version 6) which will hopefully help.

Sometimes it's not to do with the browser but with the computer, if you have another browser to hand (e.g Safari or Chrome) then you could try YouTube on that.

I could simply be something wrong with YouTube!

Many thanks, but my mac is not the latest and cannot support the latest version of Firefox. I tried Safari and the result is the same : no sound. I don't think it could be youTube.

Which PPC processor do you have?

You can try to update to the latest Flash version that your OS and your computer supports.

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.x (Mac OS X 10.4 and later) can be found here:

I have a PowerPC4 / Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have checked my Flash player - all OK. (version 10.1.85.3)

Strangely, the volume on my iTunes works fine. Also the sound when I open BBC iPlayer (catch-up tv) is also as normal. Its just the volume on youTube that is gone. Its a mystery ! Doubly so for me as I am not all that computer savvy !

Try to clear the Flash cookies (LSO) and settings.

Thanks cor-el, I've looked at the two sites you mention.

Do I just delete everything ?? Re. the first above : how can I distinguish between what to delete and what to keep as almost all the website names mean nothing to me ?

(I clear cookies and cache every time I close Firefox. Is that connected ?)

There is usually no need to keep some Flash cookies, so you can remove them all.

Many thanks ! Sorted ! For now . . .
