Where can I get a previous, stable & secure version than the newest?

So i've been using Firefox for years, and recently had to wipe (do this every 6months to keep my comp tidey), and when I reinstall Firefox to the newest version I'm treated to complete shock when I see it's been turned into a Google Chrome clone.

If i wanted Google Chrome, I'd use it. Not only is the ease of use gone, but my bookmarks button has been completely destroyed & is cumbersome to use (JUST like Google Chrome). I've got more than 80 bookmarks, and i DO use more than half of them on a weekly basis. I can only fit like 10 links on this CRAP bookmarks "toolbar", and would like the EASE OF USE that previous Firefox versions provided without loss of security.

Any ideas? -Rj

You can change the interface to make it look like the previous version as follows:

  • Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.

  • Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top.

  • To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.

  • To replace the status bar at the foot of the page, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

If, in spite of the above, you still want to revert to the previous secure version which is v3.6.19, do the following.

  1. Go to Download Firefox v3.6.19 and download it to the desktop.

  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

If you want to make a backup of your bookmarks just in case, do the following.

  1. Either click the orange Firefox button and go to Bookmarks, then Show All Bookmarks, or hit CTRL+SHIFT+B to open the bookmarks manager.

  2. Click the link at the top called Import and Backup, then click Export HTML and save the file somewhere.

Greetings.

First Firefox is not chrome. Second the default Firefox package you download off the site is hardly relevant. I have about 1000 bookmarks and I manage them fine.

Half of Firefox is about making web browsing a personal experience. So instead of waiting the developers to release a package thats suits you - you take the package and customize it to satisfaction. 10 minutes in the Firefox add-on section and you will have more bookmark functionality than you could use.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/bookmarks/

As I am not aware of what you have in mind exactly so I can not recommend you a specific add-on. I can only tell you that my Firefox is almost completely tailored to my satisfaction and it now bears little resemblance to the default package and the only thing that remains to be done is implementation of the suggestions I have floating on numerous areas.

It is impossible for a default-package to satisfy every user. That is why we have open source. That is why we have Firefox that is why there is a superb user base. Firefox is about empowering you to take charge of your browsing and not wait for any developer to develop what you want the way you want it. Because even if they did so other users would feel like you - because they would dislike what you like. And I highly doubt you really tried the available options Firefox has when it comes to bookmarks and so on.

I've use Firefox since it came out and I'm still learning new things. Firefox is not here to please any specific user. It is here to open the browser experience to anyone and it has. There isn't any other browser on the planet that produces more and better collaboration between all groups of people than Firefox.

Old versions of Firefox are not recommended despite what functionality you might like.

New ones, are definitely faster and more secure, plus constantly improved. Either way the previous answer covers that.

If you however have trouble working customizations you should ask a proper question about it, and not just flaunt your dissatisfaction without any specifics.

Below if a image of my edition of the interface. Which barely shows how much additional functionality I have.

Cheers
