I can't stop Firefox from listing web sites as I type. I've turn off everything in preferences and it still lists web sites. How can I stop this?

Every time I type in the search engine Firefox tries to guess what I what. It lists web sites that have what I'm typing before I finish typing. I find this to be very annoying and want to stop it. I went into Preferences-Advanced and turned off everything under the General tab, but it still insists on listing web sites as I type. According to info on your web site this should stop when I turn off 'Search for text when I start typing', however it does not stop. How can I get this to stop? I'm running PCLinuxOS 2010 with Firefox 3.6.10
