Firefox keeps disappearing from my computer every time I shut my computer off or close the lid. I have to then re-download every time I want to use it as a browser
Firefox keeps disappearing from my computer whenever I log out and shut down the computer or just close the lid. Therefore, I have to re-download the browser every time I want to use it. It won't stay on my dock and won't save to my applications folder.
This happened
A few times a week
The first time I logged off

Hello Cheryl.
Your computer may be set to restore the files every time you start it up. Contact your network administrator for support, or disable that behavior if you don't have a net admin.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean reinstall. Install the new version that you have downloaded. Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
@ Cor-el I've done 'clean installs' many times on my old ibook and this new macbook pro. Does not work it still disappears! I even save it to desktop... Gone! @Morbus Nope I don't have anything set to clear and NONE of my other files disapear. note I started with panther on old laptop and now have leopard 10.5.8
I don't know what system the first person had but like I said I have a macbook and I've only had a problem with Firefox and nothing else! They need to fix the problem I kind of gave up and just use Safari as it's more reliable.....:(

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

I found this on another help site, I think it's the trick:
there are 2 halves to the Dock. With a bar in the middle.
on the left side, there are 2 sections. the furthest left are the icons that will stay in the dock, then on the right side of the left half of the dock, are the temporary icons, the ones that just stay there till the program is done.
You can freely move a temporary icon to the left and it will be come a permanent icon.
I am reminded of the wizard of OZ here... you could always get to firefox... you just had to click your mouse (and drag an icon)..
