I have been a user of Netscape/Communicator/Firefox since the first day Netscape came on the market. I talked my father into buying a lot of Netscape stock the day it first appeared on the market.

It is time for our association to end. I am retired now and on a fixed pension. My ISP is raising their rates again to pay for the 1Gbps (or is it 10Gbps) service I do not use or need or have available. It is an across the board rate increase regardless what you use. It is time for me to downscale and the only other ISP to serve my area only offers 768Kbps.

I need to stop loading all the junk that appears every time I change what page I am looking at or that I follow a link. I have tried using about:config and setting permission.default.image to "2" and cannot stop the images. I have tried adding the AddOn ImageBlock and I still get the images. I have tried adding Ghostery and no more help.

As I am unable to block the images, it is with great regret, we have come to the parting of ways. I do not like Chrome but I can block the images there.

i know how you feel. For me, i wished i had invested in hair spray stock back when John Travolta was dancing in bell bottoms and trying to stay alive.  :-)

In any case, you brought up a very interesting problem. I had no idea that FireFox had removed the capability for handling image downloads. Additionally, the syntax you had used with the value of "2", is outdated. So it doesnt work in these new versions of FF.

However, here is an add-on that will 100% block the images in your FF:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-block-x/

My suggestion is for you to install "all" add-in's in your current FF. This will ensure a cleaner browser.

Next install the above add-on. Subsequently, you will find a little button with an "x" on it that acts like an on/off switch, at the end of the url field..
