Is it safe to delete Files from Cache2/entries ?
I have more than 14000 files in the directory in ....\Firefox\cache2\entries and I would like to get rid of them. The large number of files in this directory impacts my disc performance, e.g. during backup or virus scanning. I have tried to clear cache and history in the options menu, but the files stay there. The files date from one week ago back to approximately one year ago. Can you give some advice, what these files are used for an how I can remove them ? Thanks

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.
That is the disk cache as you can see on the about:cache page. Best is the clear the entire cache2 folder to avoid messing up the index file in the main cache2 folder. Firefox must be closed when you clear this folder.
