Why Am I Unable to Make Calls on Computer From Google Hangouts in Firefox 78.0.1?
I'm having a problem making outgoing phone calls from Google Hangouts from my Firefox 78.0.1 browser on my Mac running OS 10.13.6 High Sierra. Can anyone tell me what to do to get this working? Every once in a while it works, but most of the time it will not. I have the same issue when I try doing it via Chat out of my Gmail account.
What happens is that when I execute to dial the number, the dialer pops up and instantly closes, and the call does not go through. That dialer will not stay open, and it must forthe call to work. This happens whether I try to use it online from https://hangouts.google.com/ or out of a Gmail e-mail account via Google Chat, which is included in the e-mail account.
I prefer to use Firefox rather than Google Chrome. But in testing, I find I can make outgoing calls from Chrome.
Once in a while, this works. In my Google search, I did find one assertion that it no longer will work out of Firefox because Firefox has stopped supporting plug ins (I had no idea -- then Flash also should not work, but it does, I can watch flash videos, so I'm doubtful plugin support is the issue).
Yet, I do find that Firefox actually offers a Google Hangouts add on! I don't see how that could be if it can't be supported for lack of a plugin. I installed that, closed and reopened Firefox, and tried to dial out of it. Same problem, dialer flashed open and closed, it did not dial out.
Again, I note, sometimes, rarely it seems, it will work. It should not do even that if it requires a plugin that is not there. I didn't see anything in settings that I would expect could be related.
I also note, I have tested it on a Windows 10 laptop, again out of the current Firefox, and same issue. So it doesn't appear the problem is necessarily linked to my Mac, its linked to Firefox. I suspect Firefox will have to do something to be compatible with Google Hangouts and Google Chat.

The mic works, I can use it fine with Google Chrome. The problem is with Firefox.
As for Web console, I opened it and tested. I have no idea what that 10 miles of code means. So that isn't going to be helpful. BUT, I don't think this issue is going to be unique to me.
I note, my Firefox was upgraded to v. 78.0.2 today. But the issue continues unchanged.
BTW, re that mic suggestion, the dialer actually quits before I even get a chance to click to give permission to use the mic. So, the mic isn't even engaged yet.
Is anyone else here able to use Hangouts or Chat to make a phone call using the latest Firefox? I very much expect this is an issue for everyone.
I looked at the Console again, right after testing and failing a Hangouts call again. I have no idea how to read that. But I see a long list of things in yellow, and one spot talking of an error all in blue. Here is that blue spot, maybe it indicates the problem?:

Hmm. No responses. Seems Mozilla has no interest in this issue.
Just thought I'd add in that Google is crap, Voice is broken, it has been broken a long time, no one from Mozilla cares. I just tried again to make an outgoing call from Voice on my computer, still will not make the call from the computer, will only direct it to my linked phone number -- even though I have specifically turned off the setting to send it to the number only. I'm using Firefox browser, the correct browser to use. I will not use Google Chrome, far too much spying on me from that, unlike Firefox.
Too many times I have run into a problem with one thing or another of Google that doesn't work and you can't do anything to get it fixed, Mozilla does not listen, no way to let them know. I have filed Feedback and other in the past to no avail. So, Google is crap.
