Update to 76.0 fails everytime

I use a mid 2011 Mac (16GB of RAM) which has maxed out on El Capitan 10.11.6. I have 2 issues. Every time I open Firefox, it says that it is trying to install a helper tool which will happen on restarting Firefox. Nothing seems to happen. When I next reopen Firefox this process repeats.

I have also downloaded and try to install 76.0 several times but eachtime I restart Firefox I remain on 75.0.

Any thoughts?

I used your link to download 77.01 which I can see in my downloads folder. It appeared to install fine and all seemed to be going well but the next day, the programme had reverted to 75.0
