How difficult is it to implement SHA-256 for inbuilt password manager when SHA-1 is already in place?

more options

Why has the inbuilt Firefox password manager not implemented SHA-256 yet? I recently checked through all the change logs since 2018 since April 2018 and don't yet see it being implemented. I am very much against using 3rd party password managers and hence I have been waiting for the FF password manager to become good enough, but I don't see any good happening.

Is it not being done just to get people to register for online account? The idea of saving passwords on the cloud just to have it encrypted, given the possibility that man in the middle attacks can simply ruin all my saved passwords in one go looks like a round about solution to a simple problem. Also, Firefox doesn't work properly on my (new) Android device so there is no reason for me to use the online account.

Is there any way I can implement SHA-256 without having to bother and/or beg you multiple times? Please give me a viable method (I am an intermediate in C/C++ never done anything in a big software before).
