Where or how does Firefox store visited links info that is seen by the colour change of those links?

If this info comes entirely from my history, then I need to find a way to restore the places.sqlite file from a previous backup. I had years of history wiped out by accident when I uised an optimization app. I depend heavily on knowing which links have already been seen on some sites. Can I just copy over the older file or is it more complicated? Thanks for your advice! I am on Win7 64bit and Firefox 56.0.2
