firefox should provide easy means to block video streaming.
I don't care where it comes from or what type of player it is. I don't want to be distracted by any website playing any video unless I provide explicit permission first.
firefox should provide this capability; until they do the browser has a deficiency

Well, try an extension, to be exact try uBlock Origin - https://goo.gl/iZ8K3g
If uBlock does not help,
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for something that can block videos.
With the Flash Player Plugin (Shockwave Flash is old name) either set it to Click to Activate or Never Activate in Add-ons Manager so any Flash videos or Ads you encounter do not autoplay.
Type about:config with a : in the Location (address) bar. There are a choice of two Preferences you can toggle for the HTML5 player that may help.
The media.autoplay.enabled Preference will keep the HTML5 media from auto-starting in any tabs.
Or instead you can try toggling the media.block-play-until-visible Preference to true.
