The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you have a recent version of Android, on which Flash is no longer supported, when you play YouTube in Firefox, you are using an HTML5 player. The player has very basic controls compared with the YouTube app or desktop.

You can use an add-on to modify playback speed. I tried out the following one and it worked:

I did find the buttons a bit small for my finger, and I would prefer being able to skip 1.1 since I'll probably never want to increase speed by only 10% (etc. for other increments). There's a settings page available when you install it on desktop Firefox, but the menu item doesn't seem to work on Android, I think because it uses a pop-up window. Hopefully that can get fixed at some point.

Anyway, you might see how it works for you, and search around for any others that may suit you better.

To load it on Android:

menu > Tools > Add-ons > Browse all Add-ons

Then do a search for video speed (or whatever makes sense to you). (There isn't a normal install button, instead there's a slider switch. Not my favorite interface because it feels rather slow to respond.)

Update. I downloaded the add-on you suggested (Video Speed Controller). It works. But Like you said, the buttons are small. I did not even see the little square in the upper left corner at first. Hard to see. Then the control buttons are small, as you said. But it works good enough. I use it for guitar instructional videos. Thanks.
