I have tried to reset the printer in Firefox. I have tried to update Firefox. I have other browsers which I can print in. I like Firefox the best. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi Yvonne, before this started, did you make any changes to your firewall or security software, because that could be the culprit?

Just to confirm; you said 'I also tried to just reset Firefox. Nothing happens.' Reset is an old term for Refresh - is that what you did? When you say 'Nothing happens,' do you mean it didn't fix the printer issue, or Refresh didn't actually work - if it did work, you should see a file on your Desktop entitled Old Firefox Data, and any add-ons would have been removed; if that's the case you can ignore the following.

If there is no file on your Desktop - indicating that Refresh didn't work, your profile may have got corrupted, in which case, you can try creating a new Profile to see if Print works - Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. If it does, you can cautiously copy essential files from your old Profile to the new one, but keep in mind that one of them may be corrupt, so keep testing Print, and don't copy more than necessary.

Hello Scribe,

I tried to reset the printer in Firefox by going to about:config and typing in print_printer and hitting reset but nothing happens. I also tried to just reset Firefox. Nothing happens. All I can see is an error in the print area, but nothing else.

I hope you can help.

Yvonne

If you haven't already, restart Firefox. Now please read the linked article and try following the instructions under the heading Reset all Firefox printer settings, and Change the default font.

If that doesn't work, I don't know what else to suggest, but it might help someone else if you could quote the exact error message, or take a screenshot. Please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Hello again.

I decided to use print_printer in the about:config again, and it was not there. I do not know what happened. Do I need a plug in, and if so, where do I find it?

Thanks again,

Yvonne

The setting in about:config would be missing if you haven't used the printer.

Assuming you've done all the above, and you also say that you've tried to reset Firefox; try performing a Clean reinstall - it looks worse than it is! This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to view these steps in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

P.S. The error message I get is just that. It says error, nothing more

Success!!!!! Hello Scribe.

I decided to try to refresh Firefox once again, and it worked!!!!

Thank you so much for your help. I was hoping if I tried the refresh again it might do the trick.

Take care, stay cool, and have a good week.
