Since v48, does not open .svs image files in external program aperioscope. 47.0.2 and older worked fine.

In normal operation, firefox v47.0.2 and older would behave correctly: click on spectrum image thumbnail, it would then download a file called: digitalslides.sis and then launch an external image viewing program call aperio imagescope with the image.

The contents of the file: digitalslides.sis is: <SIS><CloseAllImages/><ViewingMode></ViewingMode><Image><URL>//xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/imageserver/@@4Q2CzEQ1xLy-DJ-hokRuwYtzV6I3YLJZuhShYY8VVj7KexI2WKzfK3uYPk2B_kb8tEVDanVn0eY=/@445286</URL><Title> Barcode:

Since firefox v48 and newer this does not happen. Instead of downloading and launching the external program imagescope, it opens an internal java/script? program called webscope, sent from the aperio spectrum server? This is not what we want.

Chromev55 and many versions older and Edge, all under windows 10 now, also do not launch imagescope as is wanted. Short of removing firefox and reinstalling v47 and never updating, is there a custom about:config setting that can be changed to fix this?
