Firefox 43 no longer uses my browsing history to suggest my frequently visited sites in the URL bar. Do I have to use a search engine?

I have just downloaded firefox 43. In the past, I could visit many of my favorite sites by simply typing a few of the first words. For example, by typing the letters "sl" firefox would immediate suggest slashdot.org and I could simply press the right key and type enter. But it seems the update to firefox 43 wiped out this functionality (or worse, my browsing history). Is there a way to restore the old behavior? This really sucks. I don't want to type the whole site name every time...

Thanks,

Dimitri
