Why is it that we still have the ssl_error_weak_server_cert_key error when trying to access Linksys routers?

We had this error pop up back in FF 32 and 33 and FF 34 fixed it. Why is it that since FF38.1 the error has returned and even now with FF 40 the error is still there. Why is there no longer an add exception option for these routers? Even some of the newer ones still give this error.

You probably can't update the key, but you can complain to Linksys.

Was there an about:config entry that was changed in earlier versions that fixed this?

You might also be running into the DH cipher block. There you can disable security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha and security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha in about:config temporarily.

I have already tried disabling those to no avail. Temporarily I have been using chrome when I need onto my router page.

My best guess is that your router uses a 1024 bit key, which is now considered as weak by Firefox, and hence blocked. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Releases/38/Site_Compatibility#Security

I don't think this can be overwritten in Firefox, so you'd need to update your routers cert, or use a different browser which still supports weak keys to access it.

How would I update the cert key? The firmware is up to date already.

Fair point. Lol. I'll get right on that
