I've seen countless threads on this issue with Mac OS, but none with Windows. I realize XP is now defunct but that's what I had to restore this dinky laptop to, so it'd be awesome if someone can help me out. I can't use the two-finger scroll in Firefox, and only i in Firefox. Disabling/enabling Auto and Smooth Scrolling didn't do anything. I'm set on using this browser on this machine so please, help if you can.

You have a very old version of Firefox (13.0, current: 39.0). Before any issue, you should update Firefox (it could solve a lot of problems).

@Banban You're right, but I have no idea how that happened. I just downloaded this copy of the browser yesterday, from the website. Did it give me a release based on what this machine's specs said it could handle...?

Updated. Still not scrolling, but I've noticed it's stopped working in folders, too, which means it's probably my Synaptics point driver. I tried to update that, but for some reason Synaptics' driver release for XP/Vista/7 is giving me an error saying it's not valid for x32 even though right on the .exe it says that it is.

The current release should work if you have at least XP service pack 2.

You can find the full version of the current current Firefox release (39.0) in all languages and all operating systems here:

@cor-el Thank you, I was able to update successfully. However, I'm seeing this issue across the board, so it looks like it's my trackpad and not the browser.

Try to modify the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref on the about:config page from the default value -1 to 0 or 1 to see if that makes the touch pad work better. Close and restart Firefox after changing the ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled pref.

  • ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled (-1:autodetect; 0:off; 1:on)
