Unable to fix home page & searching hijacked (search.safefinder.com)
Unable to fix home page & searching hijacked (search.safefinder.com) I have tried all of the possible fixes available from the Mozila Firefox help website. I am using a Fujitsu Siemens laptop running Windows Vista. Firefox is set as my default browser. Google is set as my default search engine & I have removed all other search engines. I have now set firefox to open with a blank page as I am sick of the wrong homepage opening. I have resett firefox several times. I have deleted personal settings from Internet Explorer when in safe mode. I have resett my home page. I have checked the target of the shortcut in properties. I have used Malwarebytes, Microsoft malware scanner & other various malware scanners, but I do not want to pay to remove malware that I never wanted in the first place. I have run scans in safe mode, some malware was found which has been removed. I have tried to manually search for safefinder but can not find anything. I downloaded & installed Google Chrome & exactly the same thing happened with that so I have uninstalled it. I googled this problem & found that lots of people have the same problem. Please help if you can.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem, it is clearly on your PC somewhere since it infected Chrome, and I appreciate you have run several scans, but not all will remove all malware, so try working through Remove Search.SafeFinder.com virus (Removal Guide) by Malware Tips - which is usually successful. It is essential to remove it from your PC, before cleaning up FF, otherwise it will keep coming back.

Thank you for your fast response. I have carried out the four step procedure exactly as it says but it has not corrected my problem. Sorry but what is cleaning up FF? I am using AVG free 2015 on my laptop if you need that information. Any other ideas PLEASE.

Thanks again for your help, It was the SearchReset extension that I needed to complete the repair. Everything seems to be in good order now.
