I can't update firefox. When I click on the upate link it says to click on the fire fox at the top of the page. There is no firefox at the top of the page.
Need to update. I can't find the place to update.

Please go to www.getfirefox.com, and download a fresh version of Firefox. Install it using the directions at How to install Firefox on Windows and it will upgrade your Firefox while keeping all your data.
I have done that twice. It still hasn't updated yet.

Yes perfect :) So your Firefox is all up to date, all the is messed up is your user agent is incorrectly saying Firefox is out of date. That's an easy fix :)
Please follow the steps at How to reset the default user agent on Firefox to reset your user agent. I hope this helps!

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
