How can I avoid pop ups from appearing in a separate tab and focus shifting onto that?

I'm annoyed by this particular site "www.rich-countries.net" which appears suddenly in separate tab when I'm browsing something seriously. Sometimes it even opens up even when the Firefox is not used. I'm not sure whether this would be called a pop up exactly, but it appears from no where. I have even tried re-installing the Firefox, but that didn't help. Any solution?

It launches tabs even if Firefox is closed? This usually indicates that external malware is sending a URL to your default browser. Another user reported a very similar thing: Stopping this web address like http://www.rich-countries.pl/germany.php from opening a new tab (not yet marked solved).

To start, I suggest opening the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

Next, you could try several malware scanners. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. Note: those are free and take a while to run. If they terminate quickly and prompt you to buy, your computer has a serious infection.

Finally, if you notice this happening at particular times, check the Windows Task Scheduler.

  • Windows XP: Start button > [All] Programs > Accessories> System Tools > Scheduled Tasks
  • Windows Vista/7: Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler
  • Windows 8: ?? You might try the charms bar search box if you don't find it in the control panel.

  • Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.
