Firefox did not locate server for connection but Explorer did, then, after logging in with Explorer, I could run Firefox successfully. Why?

I am in a hotel room, a hotel which offers free WiFi... I just have to log in as a Guest user and provide a password. So, I start Firefox on my laptop and the various pages it saved fail to load. So I go to Windows and select the hotel site. But there's no place to log in. I tried a bunch of things which usually fumble my way to getting things to work. Failing, I started Windows Explorer and I immediately am asked to log in to the hotel server. Once I do, and the hotel site shows, I close Explorer and start Firefox and all is well. I am puzzled. Therefore, I ask my question, knowing that the fault is mine.

In some case for more security some sites have to viewed through IE as a preinstalled with OS which not only gives your location but also the identity through OS registration as it is secure. Try to know as your Hotel Server can be viewed through other browser also or not
