Hi there, I am a Firefox user on Windows 7 with a question I hope someone can help me with.

Yesterday, I had an issue where clicking on links in tweets would send me to Bing, which I didn't want. After a while simply restarting the browser fixed the issue, but it would come back. Now it seems to be fixed.

Today, however, I did a Google search for my local hardware store, clicked a link to go to it but was instead sent to Bing's search result for that subject. Repeatedly. And even when I clicked on Bing's search result it STILL rerouted me back to Bing.

Restarting fixed the issue very briefly before it started again. Seems somehow intermittant (sp?). Also I noted the Bing page seems to have me connected via Facebook, which I don't remember ever doing.

I did some research on others showing this problem and don't see anything in my programs from Conduit or anything like that. I would very much appreciate any help on getting rid of this constant redirect to Bing! Thank you.

Try going to Addons>Plugins and look for something there that looks "suspicious" - possibly the "Pocket 3.0.5 (isreaditlater@ideashower.com)" - and disable it.

You should also go to Windows Control Panel > Programs and look for suspicious things there and uninstall them. There are lots of malware/spyware programs included in with other programs that will install themselves & screw with your browser.

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
