"Firefox is already running but is not responding" error message is continuously popping up after the recent firefox update. I have nearly exhausted every possible solution to the problem as seen from the support page for this error message. I know someone who has the same issue on their computer and it also started right after the recent big update. Does the update have anything to do with this reoccurring issue? Is anyone else having this problem? Any other ideas on how to fix it? It would be great to get some help.

Mozilla released 29.0.1 as an update to Firefox 29 to fix this issue. Please upgrade by going to Help > About Firefox and the download will start

Try to use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.

I'm having the same problem. With each new update, FF seems to be having more and more performance issues! I have the latest update, cleared cache, cookies, all the usual fixes and it still freezes up on me. Half the time, I also get a script error. It's getting to the point where I might have to start using Chrome (which I dislike, but at least it doesn't keep freezing on me).

I'm having the same issue where Firefox stops responding and it only got worse with the 29.0.1 update. But it is also happening with IE9 which makes me think it has something to do with the last Microsoft updates or Norton Internet Security which I also recently upgraded to the latest version.

I've tried turning off add ons but I don't know where else to look.

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may be caused by the clear history settings.

Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Privacy.

The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866?esab=a&s=&r=1&as=s {web link}
