After upgrading to Thunderbird 60.2.1, I can no longer send messages. I'm running Linux 4.15.0-38-generic.

I get the attached error saying that I have problems with STARTTLS SMP. However, I have my connection security as SSL/TLS (second attachment). I haven't changed anything for years on my connection security. I successfully sent emails yesterday. Sending still works on my other machine (Windows) with v 59 and the same settings..

I have attached a screenshot of the incoming message from a scam email. It was a request to buy an itunes gift card. Although the name of the sender is mentioned in the subject, the message came from an email address that is not in my contacts. In spite of this, the Correspondents column showed the trusted name, which caused me to respond, although I didn't send money. Can the trusted name be replaced with the actual bogus email address? That would add security.

I tried deleting and installing Thunderbird several times but it still requires master password that I wrote when I installed StartupMaster add-on on my Thunderbird. I don't know what to do because it seems like I won't be able to install and use Thunderbird on my Mac any more? I thought that maybe there is a need to delete Thunderbird completely from my Mac but I don't know how else I can do it - I just delete the Thunderbird like I delete all other apps. Thanks for help.

I constantly get mails with plaintext and then some HTML-Version of the same mail attached.

I just want to see the plain-mail part without any HTML/CSS/whatever. I dont want HTML and CSS to get rendered. Preferably I want it stripped from the mail and deleted. Is there some way to archive this or an addon that will do it?

I'd like to have only email address shown in received mails list.

Reason:

detect forged email is easier.

Things that do not work:

-addons, there is none that works with thunderbird 60 and it should be basic feature

-uncheck in options "show only name for who is inaddress book", done and people are not in address book

-open the email and read the sender there, that's known but is not what i asked

Example:

sender: "Posteo Support <their@mail.here>" but in the list is only "Posteo Support"

mail from friend that changed his name in google account and sent me test email, sender: "Posteo support <friend@google.com>" but again in the list is exactly as the real one: "Posteo Support"

This bypass spf, dkim and maybe also antispam because it's outside their scope

Same apply for s/mime digitally signed emails, there is no column for it, you have to open them one by one to check what is signed and what isn't.

It has been asked so many times in many years

there are multiple, now outdated, plugins for this

Can we have an official answer on why this bacic feature has not been implemented yet in 2018?

I had 2 gmail addresses in Thunderdbird. For the first one, I just changed the password authentication method to Oauth2 in the server parameters and it instantly made the replication work.

For the second one, I unfortunately deleted the account and couldn't recreate it, even with the "less secured application" set on in the Google Account parameters. I also tried to activate the 2 level connexion method and generate an application password but couldn't find any way to use it in thunderbird. Therefore, I'm stuck with Webmail Gmail application. I have noticed that the connection has been bllocked by Google (see image)

Hope some body can help (this is related to Google security reenforcement actions but seems that Thunderbird is not up to date on this issue).

I have not been able to make a connection to the mail.comcast.net for a day now. I see the connecting bar at the bottom but get a failure that it failed to connect. I cleared the password manager. but no popup appears to enter my password in. So without authentication, it cannot get the email. I can't force the login popup to appear to enter the new password.

Server settings are fine, I am using POP3 which is remaining a valid choice. I use avast, current version (autoupdate) Thunderbird is current too. My firewall is WindowsDef, but Thunderbird is on allowed list. I have briefly turned off both Avast and still no connection. I', not sure if defender is blocking even if I selected it. Comcast of course denies anything as the web interface is fine ATM.

(this is not the router or modem as another laptop using thunderbird (probably older as it's my mother's) opens fine. I have done little else for the last day and have run out of things the check, help>! Thanks

Error message says: "The mail server responded: 5.7.57 SMTP; Client was not authenticated to send anonymous emails during MAIL FROM." I see in security settings there's no password entry for outgoing mail on this server, just for incoming. There are separate password entries for incoming and outgoing mail on both my other email accounts. I was not asked for a password at any time during setup and don't see how to add one.

Have removed password entry in security. Tbird then hangs on 'Connected to ....', but does not offer chance to put in new password. So I can see inbox and emails on BT but not through Thunderbird. Solutions appreciated.

I try to connect to pop3.cogeco.ca to download my mail. I get a warning screen that says the security certificate is invalid because it points to another site. When I check into the details, it tells me that the certificate is issued to "pop.cogeco.ca" by GoDaddy.com

According to Cogeco support all my account and server connections are set correctly - and it's Thunderbird's problem>>>>

Can't get or send any messages in TB, just get the error message below. I read a solution to this for windows but I have a macbook pro using OS X.11.6...all help gratefully appreciated!

Secure connection failed

live.mozillamessaging.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: <a id="errorCode" title="SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER">SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER</a>

When I try to send an email a message pops up saying 'error saving message to sent'. A second message sometime comes. The IMAP server imap.tiscali.co.uk does not seem to support encrypted passwords.. Try changing paswords

Each day, when I first click the Thunderbird icon, about 7 password request appear on top of each other. I have to delete each one- with occasional additional pop-ups occurring until they are all gone. Then I can select "Get Messages" and a slightly different formatted request for password comes up ( I believe this is the 'Master Password' request ). Once I do that the system works until next reboot of the computer. I have 5 email accounts active and several calendars that sync. This doesn't disable me- but is a pain.

It would be nice if you could set an option for a distribution list that it can *ONLY* appear on the Bcc: line, so you can't by mistake put it on the To: or Cc: line and make all the e-mail addresses visible to all recipients.

Is there an option/function/add-on that does this?

We are planning to use Mozilla Thunderbird as the email/chat application for our users, however, because our security policies we can not give the passwords to the users. If we can disable the "Saved Password" button or the "Show Passwords" button using the "mozilla.cfg" file, it will be an extraordinary solution. I tried adding some like: lockPref("signonViewerDialog.enabled", false) lockPref("signon.ViewerDialog.enabled", false) They are being shown at the config editor, but not working.

I will appreciate any help!

When I click Get Messages, I get a popup: "Sending of password for user myname@insight.rr.com did not succeed. Mail server mail.twc.com responded: invalid user name or password." I went into tools>options>saved password>pop-server and changed the password. I went back and clicked Get Messages and responded my pasting the password and checking use password manager to manage this password. Same result.

Cox recently required security changes. After I walked through the steps, the last thing was suppose to be a pop up window asking for my password. This never happened. Now when I try to download messages I get this. Cox support says thunderbird is the problem and directed me here.

Frontier Communications says Mozilla Thunderbird uses a lower security sign-in. They want me to use an email client that supports OAuth. What is OAuth? Can I use it with Thunderbird? If yes, how do I configure TBird to support OAuth? At present I use TBird with POP3 protocol, and it has been entirely satisfactory. Thanks, y'all.
